Governor
Martin O'Malley, Senate President Miller, House Speaker Busch and most
of the rest of the State Democratic Party leadership have proven to
have an unquenchable thirst when in comes to spending and taxing the
Maryland public. From 2000 to 2011, Maryland state and local
government spending as a share of state GDP has risen from 16.9 percent
to 18.1 percent and education spending has risen from 5.6 to 5.9 percent
of state GDP. In addition the maintenance of effort legislation is
very one sided in that it does not allow counties to count interest
payments to fund school fixed structures and unfairly usurps power from the
counties. In 2009, Maryland ranked 9th nationally in education spending per pupil. It is difficult to argue that Maryland does not adequately fund education based on the numbers.

The state Democratic Party has aggressively shifted more state
revenue to Prince Georges, Montgomery, and Baltimore County at the
expense of other counties while minimizing the representation of other
counties through gerrymandering efforts along the lines of Republicans
in Texas and Arizona. Support the petition efforts to have a fall
referendum on the legislature's redistricting and send in the petition

Until there are major changes in state Democratic party politics, I
will remain a strong supporter of Democrats at the national level but support fiscally more moderate candidates including Republicans for state and local office. For
retirees, Maryland ranks as low as sixth worst state nationally due in large
part to the high state and local tax burden.

I just voted today. Amazing how few people were at the poles. I quess most Americans don't care if they lose their rights and government benefits. For the older ones thet could lose Medicare and some Social Security benefits. For women,they coyld lose their right to choose, health care benefits,andmaney other rights. I would think it would matter a lot, But I quess I'm wrong.

Mr. President, “Please get real with the rules.” As they are now, the deck is stacked in favor of the banking and monetary system.

With the exception of coins, our nation’s money supply is created by a banking cartel made up of commercial banks, twelve regional reserve banks that are owned by the commercial banks and the central Federal Reserve in Washington that is owned by the twelve regional reserve banks. Using fractional reserve lending formulas, the banking system writes bank credit to itself, lending it to the government and public as the principal of loans, with every dollar on deposit in this system a potential nine dollars increase in debt.

Every Federal Reserve note and checkbook dollar in the economy is somebody’s debt, with interest due to the banking system. The interest payment to the banking system and their corporations are constantly draining money from the economy, because nobody creates the money needed for those payments.

The total debt is equal to the nation’s money supply. The debt currently stands at $56.7 trillion with annual interest of $3.75 trillion (6.61% APR). At this rate, the interest payments will transfer the entire U.S. money supply to the banking cartel in fifteen years, one month and fourteen days, leaving the debt unpaid.

Reserve currencies are the greatest threat to civil rights, not only in the U.S. but throughout the rest of the world.

Financial crises arise when people ignore one simple fact: ISSUING A NATION’S CURRENCY IS THE EXCLUSIVE PREROGATIVE OF A SOVEREIGN GOVERNMENT. Operating in the best interest of the citizens, only sovereign governments can provide all currency and banking services for nations to have stable currencies necessary to grow sustainable economies.

Maryland does not need a gas tax; it needs somebody with financial ability and a bank to call its own. Last year a senate bill to create a state-owned bank was left to die without consideration – that was a big mistake.

If Maryland owned its on bank, depositing all state revenues as financial reserves, offering standard banking services like car loans and mortgages to state employees and state residents, with the profit going to the state as revenue, the state government would have all the money it needs to fully fund all state programs, lower taxes across the board, and provide zero interest loans to itself for large projects.

Matthew V's comment on WBAL today that the Nanny MO'M is courageous to propose a gas tax was the most idiotic statement (after Obama saying there are 57 states) I have heard in years. Courageous is a word for our soldiers fighting overseas, not a Governor that waits till he is re-elected to figure out he wants to tax us more. You can't tell me MO'M didn't know he wanted to do this years ago, but knew he would risk re-election if he did it in his first term.

He claims to be for small businesses.....that position is a joke when he keeps spending and taxing like he does.

God (Sorry to use that word with Dems) help us.

I am a moderate to liberal Democrat from Severna Park but I
disagree with Martin O’Malley plans to permanently raise the tax burden with
respect to income for most Marylanders. The
overriding problem is that state and local government failed to reduce its debt
to GDP ratio when economic growth and property value growth were unsustainably strong in
the 2002 to 2007 period. While Maryland GDP grew at an annual rate 5.8
percent, state and local public debt grew at a rate of 6.1 percent over that
period, raising the debt to GDP ratio to 12.8 percent from 12.4 percent. When
economic times are good, a large healthy state rainy day fund should be
accumulated for funding state spending in difficult times. It is not
the time to increase long-term state spending that is not supportable over the
long-term.

Governor O'Malley proposes permanent tax hikes to
fund excessive past and new spending programs that will permanently
increase in the tax burden. Counties that gain the most from public
transportation spending should bear a higher share of the taxes supporting improvement
spending. The state should not in
general choose winners and losers among counties from general state tax
revenues; however, that is what his public transportation spending plans and
PlanMaryland would do. Such policy encourages rapent political
favoritism. Higher sales tax hurt
Maryland merchants of large ticket items.
Public funding of wind power with all its uncertainties and likely higher
energy costs makes no sense during a state and county financial
crisis. O'Malley wants to shift a part of teacher pension funding to counties
to fund his new spending plans, further increasing the citizen’s overall tax
burden. Higher noncommercial vehicle licensing and registration fees per
vehicle are unfair since household car registration and total mileage driven don’t
increase one for one. A moderate increase in the gasoline tax is
justified but the misappropriation of state highway trust fund money cannot
continue.

This had nothing to do with O'Malley. This was Ehrlich and company at their worst and there was a racial component to the attempts to suppress voter turnout in that the majority of the calls were targeted to minorities. You can't spin that any other way.

This is just gerrymandering. Everybody does it. Both Republicans and democrats use gerrymandering to sway elections and dilute the votes of constituents they believe will not vote in their favor. However, just because everybody does it, doesn't make it right.
